Horsebox MOT testing is a legal requirement in the UK for horseboxes over three years old. These tests assess the roadworthiness and safety of horseboxes and ensure they meet the required standards for driving on public roads. All horseboxes under 3.5T should have a current MOT. Horseboxes over 3.5T need to have an up-to-date plating certificate. Our specialists recommend having horseboxes serviced at least once a year. We perform MOT’s and servicing on horseboxes from 3.5 tonnes to 7 tonnes.
Horsebox MOT testing is similar to regular vehicle MOT testing, with specific checks unique to horseboxes. The test includes checking a horsebox's partition and ramp to ensure they can safely transport horses. Horsebox tests also cover checking temperature control systems and ventilation so the horses have a comfortable environment.

A roller brake test will be performed to ensure the brakes are working properly. The horsebox will be loaded with heavy items, such as straw bales or feed bags, during the test.
Our specialists will check all external horsebox features. These include the functionality and colour of the headlights and the doors, which should be locked into position.
Our technicians will check the internal features of the horsebox, including the loading ramps, partitions, stalls and breast bars.
